Vovó Help

The pad

Each button plays a sound or a video, fires an action, switches the OBS scene, shows or hides a source in an OBS scene (or turns one of its filters on or off) or changes one of an action's controls. A source or filter button says whether it is on, as OBS has it, and "Not known" while OBS is closed. The search (Ctrl+F) finds a button by name.

One of several

A sound or video button can hold several files: "Add another…" in its dialog. Each press then plays one of them, drawn by Vovó, never the same twice in a row, and every page open shows the same one. It plays on the overlay page in OBS, so it goes on air.

Volume

A sound or video button's volume is set in its dialog, from none to 150%: 100% is the file as it is, and above it a file recorded too low is brought up, its loudest moments rounded off rather than clipped. The speaker beside a file plays it for you alone, at that volume, so a button is levelled by ear before it reaches the air.

Videos

A video plays over the whole stage, above every action, with its sound, on the overlay page in OBS, so it goes on air; a newer one takes its place, and panic stops it. Its background can go: "Chroma" takes away a green screen (or a blue or magenta one): that colour, and what is close to it, becomes see-through. "Luma" takes away black and keeps what glows over it, fading as it darkens, like fire and sparks. "As it is" keeps the video whole, or the transparency of a WebM made with it. MP4 and WebM files play, up to 200 MB.

In a loop

With "Loop until pressed again", a video stays over the live, playing over and over with its button lit, until a second press stops it (or another video takes its place, or panic): a look kept over the game, such as an old tape's grain on black with "Luma", rather than a moment.

At work

While a sound or a video plays, the foot of its button drains as it goes, here and on phones, so whoever runs the live sees it is still on, even from another room. An action can do the same for its own buttons (vovo.pad.busy: a scene that lasts half a minute, a speech), and can have a press wait for the end: the button is faded meanwhile, and a press says when it can be pressed again. An action can also hold one of its buttons for as long as it means nothing (vovo.pad.lock: a button for a part of the scene that is hidden): faded, with nothing draining, until the action lets it go. Panic ends all of it.

In a grid or by group

The pad starts as a grid: every button the same size side by side, like a hardware pad, its group's colour as a stripe. With many buttons, the icons at the pad's top right (or Settings, Pad) put them by group instead, under each group's name, or side by side: each group as wide as its buttons, the groups wrapping like words, so many small groups fit on one screen. The density sets the buttons' size in all of them. The buttons' shape goes with the layout (square in the grid and side by side, long by group) unless Settings, Pad, Button shape picks one for every layout: square, long, or mini, the icon alone on a small key, to fit many more; its name shows when the pointer rests on it, and a button with no icon of its own shows its first letters. On a phone, holding a button opens its sheet, with its name, which a mini key has no room for. Each profile keeps its own, since a pad of a few buttons and one of many are different pads. Settings, Pad shows the start of your pad over these choices, at its true size and as they make it, with how many buttons fit side by side as wide as the window is.

Controls

A "Change a control" button shows the value as it is: the lamp of on or off, the option chosen, the count, the text. A press switches on or off, picks the button's option (or the next one) and adds one to a counter. The counter's adjust icon opens a small window to take one away, type a number or start over; a text opens its own when pressed. With no overlay showing the action, the button says "Not known": the value is kept, but what is on screen cannot be known.

Show or hide

A "Show or hide" button switches the OBS preview or the screen overlay, and shows which way it is. Both are only for you, on this computer: nothing of them reaches the stream. Give it a hotkey and it works with the game in front.

The same kind of button can be your shared screen ("Your screen"): one press, and Vovó's picker opens, where you choose the window or the screen to share. While you share, the button is lit, and pressing it again stops your sharing. It works only at this computer, so a phone's pad does not show it.

And it can be the camera ("Camera"), for an action that shows one: lit while the camera is on, a press turns it off, and another turns it on. Panic turns it off too, and it stays off until it is turned on again.

Writing to the team

A "Write to the team" button sends its line to the team's conversation as yours, with a press or its hotkey, so a reply needs no typing with a game in front. It never reaches the stream or the chat, and a device's pad never has it.

Editing

A right click on a button (or the menu key, or Shift+F10, on the button the keyboard is on) opens its own menu: Edit opens its dialog, and Delete asks before taking it off the pad. A left click only ever presses it. Add button, in the same menu, opens a new button's dialog already on that button's group, with no need for Edit pad; a right click on the pad where no button is offers the same, for the group the pointer is in. "Edit pad" shows each group's "+" and lets you drag buttons into another order; from the keyboard, Ctrl and the arrows move the focused button, into another group too. Groups and their colours are in Settings, under Pad, where a group's row is dragged to put the groups in another order (from the keyboard, Ctrl and the up and down arrows). "Import…", while editing, brings many buttons in at once from a zip: each folder in it becomes a group and each sound or video a button named after its file; a pad.json in it can say the groups and labels itself, and give buttons that fire actions, move their controls or switch OBS scenes, say which are favorites ("favorite": true), give a button its hotkey ("hotkey": "F13"), which no other button of the profile may hold, and say how loud a sound or a video plays ("volume": 130, from 0 to 150; a pack that says nothing leaves a button's own). A group is found by its name and a button by its label, so the same pack brought in again updates them rather than doubling them, and one Undo takes the whole import back. In a terminal, vovo import does the same.

Favorites

"Add to favorites", in a button's menu or its dialog, shows it again in Favorites, at the top of the pad, while it stays in its group too. While editing, you can also drag a button onto Favorites. In the grid, favorites come first, with a star. A phone, or another Vovó you paired, sees the favorites of the groups it may use, until whoever uses it chooses their own: those are kept on that device alone, and yours stay as they are.

Hotkeys

In the button's dialog, "Hotkey" takes any key combination, and it works with the game in front. When another program already holds the combination, Vovó says so.

Where the sound plays

With the overlay open in OBS, the button's sound plays on the live. With no overlay open, it plays for you alone, on the private device chosen in Notifications, so it can be tried.

With no overlay open

An action's or a video's button opens the scene's preview window, in the live's shape and for you alone, and shows there what it does; a video's sound plays on the private device.

During panic

Sound and video buttons play nothing until panic is switched off, so nothing goes on air by accident.
